The Diary of Princess Diana

In an interview on British television a long time a go, Diana said that she wanted to be “Queen Of People’s Hearts.” She helped the sick, poor, and people who had any disease such as AIDS. Diana thought that if she could make someone cheerful or bring a smile onto people's faces then she knew that she had made a difference. That’s how Diana became popular in the world. The diary entries below describe her life from birth to death.

Diana’s family:
Diana Frances Spencer was born on July 1, 1961. She was the third daughter of Johnnie and Frances Spencer. Her elder sisters were Jane and Sarah and two brothers Charles and John. John was born 18 months before, Diana but when he was born he was seriously ill and died a few hours after birth. Charles was born after Diana, and was the youngest. The Spencer family had a house called Althorp House in North Amptonshire. Diana and her siblings had numerous relations with several famous people. For instance, on the father’s side of the family, they were related to King Charles II and the Duke of Marlborough. And on the mother’s side of the family, they were related to seven of the American presidents including Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Young Life:
Diana’s parents started to argue a lot and had a lot of quarrels. In September 1967, her parents got a divorced. After the divorce, Diana and her siblings stayed with their father. Their mother had moved to London. Diana started her schooling at home, and later continued schooling at Riddlesworth Hall in Norfolk. She later went to West Health School in Kent. The Spencer children had several different nannies to look after them. Some nannies were not friendly, because the Spencer kids would bug or annoy them a lot. For example, one of the nannies put laxatives in Sarah’s food as a punishment, but Diana’s mother had caught her and fired her right away. Another issue that happened was that another nanny had hit Diana with a wooden spoon and also had banged Diana and Charles’s heads together. Diana and Charles fought against the nannies. When a nanny didn’t let Diana go outside or play with her dogs, Diana sneaked in to the nanny’s room and threw all of her under clothes on the roof. It took a long time to get all the clothes from the roof, and Diana got in trouble. After a while, Diana’s mother got remarried to Peter Shand-Kydd.

Teens To College/University Life:
After Diana finished schooling at West Health School, she went to a college. After a while at the college, Diana wrote a letter to her father begging him to get her out of the school. He finally gave in and she came out of the college. That is when she ended her formal education at the age of 16. Diana had kept a scrapbook of every one of the dropouts from the school.
Diana’s grandmother died in 1972 and her grandfather in 1975. Diana’s father got remarried in 1977 to Raine Lady Dartmouth. At the age of 16, Diana’s mother offered Diana her own place in London. On weekends Diana would visit her father in Althorp. In September of 1978, while Diana was at her friend’s house she found out that her father’s health was not first-class condition. When she reached the hospital her father had suffered from a stroke and was near death. After that, her father was in coma for three months. Diana’s father slowly recovered from coma.

1979 - 1981:
Diana earned money by becoming a kindergarten teacher in London. Diana’s sister Sarah was invited to a lot of parties because she was a close friend of Prince Charles. Diana went to all the parties because she had a crush on Charles. Diana had first meet her future husband when she was a baby. In February 1979, Diana had received an unexpected invitation form the royal family, to attend the shooting weekend.
When Diana went to the shooting contest Prince Charles said that she was “a very jolly and attractive girl,” and “full of fun.”
At that time Sarah and Charles were dating but their relationship soon ended and Sarah said about Prince Charles, that he was “the brother I never had.” On April of 1979, Diana’s eldest sister Jane was getting married and Diana became a bridesmaid. The royal family was surprised on how beautiful Diana looked. Sarah was amazed that she and Diana were invited to the Prince’s 30th birthday.

Prince Charles and Diana:
Prince Charles and Diana became closer and closer to each other. One day when Charles was on a skiing trip he called Diana and told her that he has to meet her for a very special reason. Charles proposed to Diana on February 6, 1981. Diana accepted the proposal.

February 24 1981 & July 29, 1981:
February 24, 1981 was important because on this day Diana was engaged to Prince Charles.
On July 29, 1981, Diana and Prince Charles, who was heir to the throne, got married. Diana was about 20 years old and Charles was 30 years old when they got married. Diana’s father was still weak from the stroke, but he managed to walk Diana down the aisle. Diana got married at Saint Paul’s Cathedral. Diana’s veil was 25-feet long, which was the longest in history.

Honeymoon:
After marriage, Diana and Charles boarded a royal yacht called Britannica. They visited a lot of places.

June 21, 1982:
Diana’s first child Prince William Arthur Philip Louis was born.
The Queen came to see the child and said, “Thank goodness he doesn’t have ears like his father.” Diana was very excited. William was next in line for the throne.

William’s Life:
He was a naughty boy. All his mischiefs were published in the newspapers and magazines.

September 15, 1984:
Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a second child and they named him Prince Harry Charles Albert David. Charles wanted a girl, but Diana had got tests done and Diana knew that it would be a boy. Diana did not want Charles to get furious so she hid the results of the tests.

1984 - 1992:
When Prince Charles broke his arm during polo, Diana accompanied him to the hospital. While she was there she comforted a family, whose head of the family was in coma after a car crash.
In 1991, Diana and the First Lady Barbara Bush visited a lot of AIDS shelters. In 1991, an accident nearly claimed the life of Prince William. While Diana was eating lunch with one of her friends, her bodyguard told her that Prince William had suffered a severe head injury. Diana left her friend and rushed to the hospital. Prince William experienced a depressed fracture of his skull. He needed surgery done to save his life.
While Diana, Charles and their sons were in Austria, Diana was informed about Diana’s father’s death. Diana did not want Charles to go to the funeral. So they argued about it. When they asked for the Queen’s opinion, she said that it was okay for Charles to go to the funeral.

1992:
For the next several years, Charles and Diana slowly drifted apart. Their relationship got worse and they didn’t talk to each other.

1992 - 1996 (Unbelievable Things):
Mother Teresa had become sick in Rome. Charles wanted to send flowers, but Diana didn’t think that flowers were enough. So Diana leaped on a plane and flew to see Mother Teresa.
At another occasion, in England a man wrote to Diana and told her that his son was dying of AIDS, and dearly wanted to meet the Princess, which was his final wish. She thought that her good work was greeting her with some doubts by the British press.

1996:
In August of 1996, Diana divorced Prince Charles. The divorce lifted a great weight off Diana’s shoulders. The divorce did not stop her from helping AIDS patients, cancer patients, and the poor.

1997:
In 1997, Diana started to date a man named Dodi Al Fayed, the son of an Egyptian-born millionaire. Dodi’s father owned a high-class department store, Harrods, and was a close friend of Diana’s father.
When Diana returned to Kensington Place she found out that her friend who was a fashion designer was murdered, so she rushed to the funeral. There she was sitting next to Elton John, and had comforted him. He was cried hysterically.

August of 1997:
Diana died of a car crash in Paris, France.
An English nurse said, “she was a Queen for all of us, rich or poor. She was a special star who lit the sky.” Another depressing event was that Mother Teresa, one of Diana’s closest friends, had died soon before Diana’s funeral.
From the day the world heard about Diana’s death until the funeral day, there were millions of flowers around the Buckingham Palace and the Kensington Palace. Only some people gave speeches on Diana’s funeral day. Charles, Diana’s brother, couldn’t express his anger at Diana’s death, and blamed the papaarrazis for killing her. Diana’s brother gave the most outstanding speech. When he stepped off the podium, you could hear spontaneous applauds from the crowd that was outside of the church and within no time applauds were in the church. When Elton John sang a song specially dedicated to Diana, all the people in the crowd outside lit candles and cradled back and forth.
This is a diary of the “Queen of People’s Hearts,” who still lives in the hearts of the people, but had a tragic end.
