“In science, one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be
understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in
poetry it is the exact opposite.” This was said by Paul Dirac, a person
who, like me, was born in the year of the Tiger. The tiger is one of the
twelve animals in the Chinese lunar calendar. According to the lunar calendar,
every year has an animal, like the tiger, for example, and every twelve
years that same animal comes up again. Depending on what year you were
born in, you will be born with the personality and the attributes of that
animal. I do believe in the Chinese lunar calendar to a certain extent.
In fact, I would say that the Chinese horoscope is 90 percent true about
my personality and me and is more accurate than the western horoscopes
we have today.

The tiger has a very distinct personality with many opposite
attributes. The tiger’s emotions are almost always to the extreme. Whenever
a tiger is irritated or upset, it really shows you that it is upset. The
tiger will be stubborn, obnoxious, selfish, and downright unreasonable.
You should take care not to get the tiger angry for it loves revenge and
will not stop and think before it acts. Be careful not to ignore or keep
the tiger waiting for these are just two of the many ways to make the tiger
furious. From this description of the tiger you may think that the tiger
is not someone you want to be around but if you catch the tiger on a good
day, he or she will be the one who you will always want to be around. When
the tiger is pleased and delighted, the tiger makes everyone around it
feel the same way. Full of vivacity and bubbling over with life, the tiger’s
smile could brighten up anyone’s day. It’s caring nature and its love to
help anyone in need make the tiger an excellent friend.

There are many traits that the tiger has and that I also have
in my personality. There are three features in the tiger’s personality
that, I was amazed to find, are exactly the way I am in terms of personality.
I am extremely quick tempered and I tend to speak my mind a little more
than I should. Often I talk back to my dad, which gets me in quite a bit
of trouble. A lot of the time my dad and I have different views on many
subjects and when people have different ideas than I do and then try to
persuasively, yet harshly, convince me into what they believe I get agitated
very easily. However, as the first sentence in this paragraph suggests,
my quick temper and quick tongue are not the only things that are alike
between the tiger and I. I adore kids and animals. Tirelessly, I am forever
trying to convince my dad to let me get another dog, eventhough I already
have a cat and two dogs. Still, I want many more. When I get older I would
like to have as many animals as my income will allow. Not only do I have
affection for animals. I exceedingly fond of kids and I imagine that kids
are fond of me to. Often, I baby-sit when I am in the USA and watch the
children with pleasure and smile at their little actions that always mean
so much. Once again we come to yet another faulty bit in my personality.
When I start to feel the slightest bit ignored, I get intensely aggravated
as I do not like to be left alone or even to feel alone. It is something
that I can not really deal with and something that I don’t ever want to
deal with. Many times I am talking with a bunch of friends and they are
talking and I can never seem to get a word in. It makes me feel upset and
aggravated and I feel like I want to scream whenever I feel that way, but
instead of saying something like most people, I ignore people back which
is not the best way to handle it.

Though it may appear so far that all of the tiger’s features
are shared with mine, they are not. The tiger actually has a huge ego and
demands respect and awe from every one it knows. That, however, is not
me. I do not think that I am better than others, and I can name many people
who are better than me in various things. Also, I consider myself modest.
I do not admit my “talents” to anyone no matter how much they insist upon
me accepting them. Another trait that the tiger has and that I do not have
is the unreasonable space in the tiger’s personality. Though I am stubborn
in what I believe to be right I will listen to reason and what others say
though I may not follow what ever the other person thinks is right. That
is just not the way I am, stubborn, just like the tiger. It may be
that as a tiger, I am stubborn but I certainly am not fearless like one.
I happen to have many fears and the one that may seem very strange to people
is that I cannot go into any sort of water if I can not either see or touch
the bottom. This unusual fear leads to another fear that I have, sharks
and any sea creature crawling under my feet. When I am in water where I
can not see the bottom I am always afraid that something will come up and
either bite or sting me.
I am not terribly proud of some of my tiger traits and some of
them, I wish I had more of, such as vivacity or the love of life. Generally,
I do really enjoy life I would just like to show it more. As I am always
slightly hesitant about what I say or do, I would like to have more confidence
in that area. Vivacity is something that I would like to add to, but my
hasty decisions and selfishness are things that I really would like to
get rid of. Many times, I make plenty of hasty decisions, which get me
into trouble. Before I speak or act, I want to think and reflect on my
actions before actually doing them. In addition, I tend to be selfish and
when I get something new, I want it for my self and not wanting anyone
else to have the same thing, as I want it to be mine and only mine.
Now, I would like to be more caring and giving by sharing more of everything
I have.

So as you can see, the Chinese horoscope is 90 percent true about
me and my personality. The tiger is fiery, unpredictable, a person who
speaks his mind, who is fearless, and who also has a sensitive side. Even
though I am quick tempered, hate to be ignored, and have humanitarian instincts,
not the entire tiger horoscope is true about me. I do not have a huge ego,
I’m not unreasonable, and I’m certainly not fearless. All these different
characteristics of the tiger’s personality may be opposite but when they
come together they form a very intriguing and fascinating person.
