Fredrick Douglas was an negro who had escpaed and was in the American Anti-Slavery Society.  He was a runnaway slave from Maryland and is the first fugitive to speak publiclly about slavery.  He emotional speeches presued many people to becoem abolitionists.  Douglass wrote about his life in an autobiography named Narrative of the LIfe of Frederick Douglass.  Later on he created an anti-slavery paper named the North Star.  This paper encouraged slaves to help in the anti-slavery cause.  It seems that both husband and wife had similar ambitions to end slavery.  Anna Murray Douglass, Frederick’s wife, helped many slaves runnaway in the Underground Railroad.  There was also a song  called, “The Fugative’s Song” composed for Douglass.
