The following process is described on pages 2-12 of The Write Connection.

I. Prewriting

• Look for a topic
• Choose a topic
• Explore your topic
• Make a plan - create an outline and/or web

II. Drafting

• Let the words flow
• Write on every other line
• Put your draft aside and come back later

III. Revising

• Consider your purpose
• Expand your best ideas
• Are you happy with your composition?
• Can you make your word choice more interesting

IV. Proofreading

• Check for errors - indenting, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar
• Look at one error at a time - one line at a time
• Get someone else to proofread your paper

V. Final Draft

• Write a neat final draft

VI. Publishing

• Share your piece with others
• Your opinion essay will be connected to our web pages
